Pattern Principles and Definitions
When beginning the practice of patterns it is important to emphasize careful delivery of the technique and a good understanding of the technique. All patterns listed are performed under the assumption that the student is facing “D” (see pattern diagrams). There are a total of twenty-four pattern ins Taekwondo. The name of the pattern, the number of movements, and the diagrammatic symbol of each pattern symbolize either heroic figures in Korean history or instances relating to historical events. The interpretation of each pattern will be found on its specific page. Below are guidelines as to how to perform patterns properly to develop grace, power, technique, and balance.
